VIDEO: Lessons from a watershed disaster

Following the record breaking floods that devastated South Carolina in October 2015, a team of researchers led by the Global Resilience Institute’s predecessor, the Center for Resilience Studies, examined what similarly situated communities could learn from South Carolina’s experience. With sponsorship from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate, Resilient Systems Division, and undertaken in coordination with the National Protection and Programs Directorate, Office of Infrastructure Protection, the team worked with local, state, and federal officials to develop a set of findings and recommendations on better preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a catastrophic flooding disaster.
