We are excited to announce that in a joint collaboration between GRI and Northeastern, a comprehensive digital curriculum was launched this morning to support students during the COVID-19 pandemic. “COVID-19: How to be Safe & Resilient” offers a robust suite of educational practices that equips students with critical tools and information that will help flatten the epidemic curve and preserve the well-being of students and their families.
The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly emerging as the transformative socio-economic event of the early 21st century, causing major disruptions to the lives of individuals and families, national economics, supply chains, critical infrastructure, and food systems across the globe. As educational systems in multiple countries go online at the K-College level, there is a critical need to expedite the mobilization of effective communication methods and messaging techniques that address aspects of this public health emergency.
The curriculum is intended to reinforce measures that will not only contribute to flattening the epidemic curve, that in turn can buy time for mitigation strategies, but also deliver pertinent, life-saving information at the click of a button.
The initial set of curricular modules focus on nine topical areas which cumulatively serve to engage and equip students with practices to prevent the spread of the virus and educate them about how to effectively navigate a time like this while ensuring the well-being of all. The U.S. does not currently have the medical staff or facilities necessary to address the predicted level of COVID-19 patients, but if these practices are properly administered, we can have a huge impact on protecting ourselves, loved ones, and communities across the nation.
You can help by sharing these lessons with your network, through social media, email, or phone calls. You can follow GRI’s social accounts for easily shareable content over the following weeks. GRI can be found on Twitter and Instagram @Resilience_NU and on LinkedIn @Global Resilience Institute.
Curricula is currently being distributed through Northeastern’s courses and it is anticipated to be modified to suit the needs of other universities, colleges, and educational institutions around the world.
