Cascadia Subduction Zone Megaquake Critical Infrastructure Interdependencies Workshop
Bolstering the Cascadia region’s preparedness for a megaquake is the goal of an important daylong workshop in Seattle, that will take place on September 28, 2017. The Global Resilience Institute at Northeastern University and the Pacific Northwest Economic Region’s (PNWER) Center for Regional Disaster Resilience are bringing together a by-invitation group of senior stakeholders from the public sector and private industry to support a cross-sector and cross border dialogue on planning for the post-quake recovery of the energy and transportation systems for the region extending from Vancouver to Portland. This workshop will be informed by the Global Resilience Institute’s previous work in the New York-metro region following Superstorm Sandy as well as its ongoing work supporting post-disaster cross-sector planning within the Boston-Metro region. This workshop has been organized in response to key findings from the 2016 Cascadia Rising regional exercise that revealed major challenges associated with recovering the region’s lifeline infrastructure sectors. The results will inform a major regional exercise of a simulated CSZ megaquake to be held in February 2018.
