Global Resilience Institute receives ‘Outstanding Innovation Award’ from Northeastern University

The Global Resilience Institute (GRI) is this year’s recipient of the Northeastern University Outstanding Innovation Award.
The Outstanding Innovation Award was established to recognize a team whose work embodies the principles and goals of the University strategic vision (Northeastern 2025) to “accelerate discovery exponentially through the power of networks.” It honors entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity and the drive to further the University’s goal to transform higher education.
The GRI nomination highlighted the success of its collective efforts to establish the Global Resilience Research Network (GRRN). The network, officially launched at the Inaugural GRRN Summit hosted by GRI on March 29, is populated by a group of international universities and institutes committed to building resilience within and across multiple levels and around the world by undertaking collaborative interdisciplinary, multi-institutional applied research projects.
The summit hosted representatives of 20 major universities and research institutes from 14 countries, as well as distinguished practitioners who have provided leadership during some of the major disasters of the 21st century. At the conclusion of the program network partners collectively identified a total of 21 collaborative projects to pursue in the weeks and months ahead.
“This is a very exciting affirmation of the value of our mission and the importance of all that we aim to achieve,” said GRI Founding Director Stephen Flynn. “The team’s hard work is directly responsible for the success of this effort, and this award recognizes in a tangible way the value of their contributions. It is a true honor and privilege to work with such an exceptional group of colleagues. It is also a wonderful and remarkable early validation of the investment that Northeastern’s leadership has made in the institute initiative generally and the Global Resilience Institute specifically.”
