America the Indispensable Power: Singapore’s Perspective of America as a Security Partner

This paper examines security relations between Singapore and the United States, as well as the U.S.’s role in ensuring a stable balance of power and economic development in the Asia-Pacific. The paper goes through the history of the US- Singapore security relationship, looking at pre and post-Cold War and post-9/11 eras. Ultimately, author concludes that despite some concerns over security post-9/11 and doubts about its congruence of its interests with the US, Singapore prefers the United States' presence over other powers.
