Anticipating Megacity Responses to Shocks: Using Urban Integration and Connectedness to Assess Resilience

This article addresses the rapid rise of megacities, urban areas with at least 10 million residents, and how their unique characteristics are changing urban warfare. It addresses how issues of both offensive and defensive military strategy have evolved, how the megacity as a complex system operates and what its vulnerabilities are, and keys to urban resilience. It concludes that a complex adaptive systems framework must be embraced in order to best approach the task of understanding the networks of megacities and related security concerns.
