Do resilient and sustainable design strategies conflict in commercial buildings? A critical analysis of existing resilient building frameworks and their sustainability implications

Topics: Energy, Homeland Security Theory Policy and Practice, Commercial Facilities & Mass Gatherings,

This report aims to identify intersections between existing resilient commercial building procedures and sustainable design practices. To do so, it reviewed 88 distinct construction strategies, classifying them first as relating to one of five resilience themes and then assigning them the designation of "positive," "negative," or "conditional" based on a qualitative analysis of their sustainability. The publication concludes that far more resilience strategies align with sustainability goals than not and identifies room for future quantitative work on this subject.
