Evolution and feasibility of decentralized concentrating solar thermal power systems for modern energy access in rural areas

Topics: Energy,

This article explores the role that small-to-medium scale solar thermal power systems could play in expanding energy access to the over one billion people currently without electricity. Energy demand continues to rise and, the authors assert, a reliable grid is essential to higher quality of life. They propose that one component of an economical solution for these underserved communities is the increased implementation of micro-concentrating solar power systems with thermal energy storage capabilities.
