Improving Supply Chain Disaster Preparedness: A Decision Process for Secure Site Location

Topics: Emergency Management, Supply Chain,

This research paper aims to provide a procedure to create an efficient network of secure, off-site storage facilities that can in turn support a network of supply chain facilities in the event of a disaster. These facilities are critical in storing emergency supplies, equipment, and vital documents. It bases the process on the five-stage disaster management process for supply chains and combines FEMA recommendations with a set cover location model to create an interdisciplinary solution. It finds that the method proposed successfully balances operational effectiveness and cost-efficiency concerns when determining appropriate site locations.
