Locating Backup Facilities to Enhance Supply Chain Disaster Resilience

This article examines and expands upon set location modeling as a decision aid in locating backup facilities to increase supply chain disaster resilience. More specifically, it is a continuation of work done by Trevor Hale and Christopher Moberg and looks into the optimal number and locations of backup facilities as well as how to allow existing facilities to serve as backup facilities if necessary, including constraints within individual facilities and the relationships between them. The new version of the model is then applied to data from 900 cities and towns across New England and New York.
