Network Science Based Quantification of Resilience Demonstrated on the Indian Railways Network

This article presents a framework for analyzing and comparing disaster responses and recovery strategies, demonstrated with the Indian Railways Network, which transports the largest number of passengers per kilometer per year in the world. Several metrics are used to determine the sequences in which key parts of a system should be recuperated following a disruption and conclude that network centrality measures promote faster and more efficient recovery overall. It asserts that previous models were largely conceptual or anecdotal, while the tools presented here are data-driven and applicable to many Large-Scale Critical Lifeline Infrastructure Networks, including those threatened by complex cascading failures.
