Prediction of Solitary Wave Forces on Coastal Bridge Decks Using Artificial Neural Networks

This paper proposes using artificial neural networks to predict the solitary wave forces on coastal bridge decks. Accurate predictions of wave forces is imperative for the design and retrofit of bridges which may be subject to hurricanes and tsunamis. The results of the study showed that the artificial neural networks created a robust methodology capable of capturing the underlying physical complexity in the bridge deck-wave interaction.
