Resilience Engineering as Part of Security Research: Definitions, Concepts and Science Approaches

Topics: Critical Manufacturing, Critical Infrastructure Theory,

This article attempts to define and illustrate the concept of Resilience Engineering (RE), which, unlike most civil security research which is generally geared towards specific threats, is inherently holistic. Through this, the paper aims to promote resilience engineering as a way of preparing for adverse events properly, and to engineer structures that degrade gracefully and complex systems that recover fast.  Additionally, the paper hopes to produce multimodal simulations that look at the interactions between technological and social systems.
