Socio-Ecological Resilience to Coastal Disasters

Topics: Water/Wastewater,

This paper studies the connection between understanding ecosystems and their relationships with human societies and the increased resilience of these systems. It underscores the importance of coastal ecosystems in particular because of their regenerative ability, which can be used to harvest resources not long after a disturbance. It further notes the growing necessity of maintaining healthy coasts considering trends in human settlement and climate change. It recommends increased development of social capital to better support social and ecological resilience measures.
