The Challenge of Protecting Mass Gatherings in a Post-9/11 World

This hearing examined the challenges of protecting the mass gatherings that are not considered national special security events and thus do not have the support of the federal government. With two panels of witnesses consisting of military personnel and private sector stakeholders, the discussion focused on the vulnerabilities and private-public cooperation in addressing the vulnerabilities of events like state fairs, major shopping days, and college sporting events.
