The Social Amplifier – Reaction of Human Communities to Emergencies

This paper delves into the concept of network analytics, and looks at the edges of networks hubs to amplify signals and allow for more efficient detection of instances. It applies this method specifically to detect emergencies using mobile phone data, using call log data from a major mobile carrier in a European nation. They find that analyzing call data behavior from neighborhoods is more efficient at detecting anomalous external events, as opposed to choosing random groups of people.
