The U.S. Economic Impacts of Climate Change and the Cost of Inaction

Topics: Homeland Security Theory Policy and Practice,

This report by the Center for Integrative Environmental Research at the University of Maryland reviews economic studies and projected impacts of climate change in the U.S. to build upon the 2000 Global Change Research Program National Assessment. As a result, it identifies five key lessons regarding the nature of the economic impacts of climate change, including how and where effects will be felt and their implications. These findings inform its recommendations that the federal government should play a major role in organizing studies to guide climate policy and that action must be taken immediately to mitigate the worst consequences of climate change.
