Misinformation plays a big role in this year’s election. And with online platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook hosting much of it, is it possible that high school and college-aged voters are just as easily deceived by misinformation as their parents and grandparents? Additionally, how harmful are the effects of misinformation on U.S. adults in America, and how are social media companies trying to prevent the spread of it?

The rather contentious and poisonous public discourse around ‘fake news’ has substantially put young news consumers on guard about almost everything they see,” said John Wihbey, a Northeastern professor and one of the study’s key researchers.
