Toward a gender diverse workforce in the renewable energy transition | Global Resilience Institute

Despite the rapid growth of the renewable energy field, there is still a lack of gender diversity. Diversity has been shown to have multiple benefits including increased innovation and creativity. If current trends continue during the transition from fossil-fuel dominated systems to renewable dominated systems, they may deepen gender inequality. This paper further describes the gaps in women’s participation in energy, how the sector may benefit from diversity, and ways to promote diversity. The authors explore “how greater consideration of the role of gender and the value of diversity in energy could provide multiple social benefits, including promoting more sustainable practices, accelerating innovation, enhancing women’s opportunities, and empowering communities to engage in energy-system change.”
